I am thinking tabs might be more discoverable above runtime apps...?

With certified debugging on, you might not even see the tabs at first since they are below apps.

If we support tabs, we probably want to re-visit the project menu:

+-------------------+
Open Project
+-------------------+--+
New App
Open Packaged App
Open Hosted App
+----------------------+
My Projects

 Project A
 Project B

Since we're active trying to reduce number of clicks to reach things, adding submenus seems like a step backward to me.

Maybe we could experiment with some kind of two (or more?) column layout of each section of the project list.

You're right.

Jen, any thoughts on how we could improve the project list?

What's a good way to ensure all the types are discoverable, even when one group may be very large?

It doesn't necessarily even have to stay as a popup. Perhaps there's a project screen that uses WebIDE's main content area to display them.

I think reusing the screen space where the editor content and tree is be a good idea. A couple of reasons why:

1. Allows the entire area to be used so that you can provide the name of the project and possibly even valuable metadata (last opened, created, larger icon, etc)

2. Growing that list isn't a big deal and you can probably put a quick search bar above it within the same region to do a quick find (like in Github's repo search)
