Steps to reproduce:

In my Mac menu bar, would love a count of the e-mail in the Inbox (sorry, I was going to submit this as an 'idea' -- but that seems limited to Firefox -- but this is an important idea for Thunderbird Mac)

Without this count, one has to have T-bird up front all the time to see the count in the bottom window bar.

Thanks for your consideration - I have searched the web an am positive this is a highly desired feature....

We have an unread count on the app icon. Does this not satisfy your wishes?

No it doesn't, because one cannot see the app icon all the time, whereas one can always see the menu bar and quickly get a count of e-mail -- menubar showing the total # of e-mails in the inbox is great [or customize to give only unread, or both unread#/total#) -- appreciate the quick reply/info

What do you mean you can't always see the app icon? Are you hiding your dock? Showing counts in the app icon is generally the platform-consistent way to show notifications. If every app threw information in the menu bar it would be quite a mess. This seems like something better suited for an add-on, although I don't believe we currently have a mechanism in place to access the menubar.

oh I see - actually, that is fine except* it would be nice to have a total inbox count instead of (or in addition to) unread messages - again, really appreciate your help and speed

Unread inbox count or simply the inbox count? The latter doesn't really work for people who don't delete from the inbox (Like me, I have about 21,000 emails in my inbox).
