Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:32.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/32.0
Build ID: 20140830210550

Steps to reproduce:

1. Visit a page with overlapping divs, with links in the lower div which are visually completely covered by text in an upper div.

I noticed this bug using the FastMail webmail app; I have reproduced it in an ugly but simple form here: http://ricklupton.name/firefoxtest/

2. Try to select text by long-press and drag

Actual results:

The menu for the obscured link is activated (with options to "open in new tab" etc)

Expected results:

Visible text should have been selected
OS: Linux → Android
Hardware: x86_64 → ARM
interesting, is there any other information I can add to help figure out what the difference is?

doesn't wfm: http://ricklupton.name/firefoxtest/Screenshot_2014-09-25-12-47-25.png
Oh, I see you're testing using v32 ... this is probably fixed in v35 nightly (which I'm using) as a result of completion of bug 1021804.
I see, yes installed nightly and it works there. Thanks.
