Repro: 1. go to some page with images, for example title page of Bugzilla 2. load all content of page 3. exit browser 4. locate your Cache directory 5. delete all files except _CACHE_* 6. start Mozilla and go to visited page Actual result: Images, which were in cache and were deleted (for example headline of bugzilla, bug photo), doesn't appear on page. Expected result: Browser will retrive again images, which were in cache and they aren't available or they are broken. I'm not sure, if this bug is result of bug 41924 or if is property of cache system. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; WinNT4.0; en-US; rv:0.9.5+) Gecko/20011027-trunk

-> INVALID? Reporter: What happens when you choose Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Cache -> Clear [Memory/Disk] Cache ?
Summary: if you delete cache files outside of Mozilla, browser doesn't re-retrive chached files → if you delete cache files outside of Mozilla, browser doesn't re-retrieve cached files

Why invalid? If cached file is broken or is missing (as result of HDD crash or error, as result of program deleting duplicated files etc.), why doesn't load it again from source? To question: I will try it, but I have feeling, that after deleting cache files, I had try this and problem resist. I have to reload every page with previously cached images.

I can confirm this bug in 0.9.6 under Linux. I think that it's a bug if you can't delete cache files safely while Mozilla is running. For example, my backup script for my laptop starts by deleting the cached files...

This should be invalid ! Mozilla deletes the cache if mozilla or the system crashes. It's your fault if you delete the cache files.. gordon: what Do you think about this ?

I wont delete my cache files. But when it will happen (for example by some cleaning program or file system damage), I wanna inteligent browser, that can recognize missing file on disk and retrive it again from Internet. Maybe this bug should be RFE.

Since this bug was reported, a newer version of Mozilla (1.0 RC1) has been released. Reporter, please can you check to see whether this bug is still present in a recent build (Moz1-RC1 or a new nightly build). If this bug does not occur please can you resolve the bugreport?

Still problem with 2002042808/Win2K.
Hasn't been a problem here in W95OS2. Current build: 2002042808 I haven't seen it in any of the builds I've tried so far.

still happens (tested with steps in original description) with 1.0RC3 on win2k. confirming to get it off the UNCO radar. maybe it should be INVALID, I dunno - there are certainly lots of people that go nuts deleting caches and cookies and stuff to keep things "tidy". taking it down to minor (workaround is to not delete cache files and/or to clear cache if they get deleted), OS -> All.
Severity: normal → minor
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
OS: Windows NT → All
