Nearly all of the server hardware behind hg.mozilla.org is coming out of warranty in February. So that we can plan and budget ahead, can we get some quotes: 

1) replacing the hardware
2) renewing the warranty for one year

new hardware should be: 1 or 2 cores (not hugely important; one core currently), 32gb memory, SSDs (web heads have new 600gb SSDs that we should move over; hgssh* heads have little local data so size is not important)

1)replacing the hardware would probably cost around $40k. since the current hardware is still relatively new (G7s), can we upgrade the minor components like memory or disks?

i misread comment 1 and thought we needed to order 600gb SSDs as well so it shouldn't cost that much. These blades support 4-12 core processors. I've asked our vendor to quote me on 10x BL460c G8 with 32GB RAM, 1x8 core proc, no drives, and 20x G8 sleds. we have a bunch of spare 80GB SSDs if it'll meet the requirements for hgssh.

The new Gen9 have been released.  The best deal now between Gen 8 and Gen 9 is this model that includes a $950 rebate.  Problem is that the rebate expires 10/30/14 and given recent history not sure that your internal processes will allow the potential purchase to happen by than.

 

These Gen 9 blades are $3,455 each but again ONLY if purchased before 10/31/14

I'm fairly certain that we wouldn't buy this month; we're just getting numbers to budget ahead and we've got until the end of January on the current warranty. Thanks for the quotes!
