(Whiteboard: [EOYFR2014][studio mofo][donation flow][paypal][eoy][nov28] [p2])

We need to provide a way to donate to Mozilla in as many currencies as possible. We can emulate Wikimedia Foundation's solution as demonstrated on this page: http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Ways_to_Give#paypal Example UX: Step 1: User who wants to use PP to donate in any one of 29 currencies: https://www.evernote.com/shard/s202/sh/afea81a3-2963-4bae-acf6-2f7e2d474ad2/d23b66b9b46d71a03c376603308b8b33/deep/0/Ways-to-Give---Wikimedia-Foundation.png Step 2: User selects Philipino Peso: https://www.evernote.com/shard/s202/sh/d8a0720c-eba3-4222-8ebe-5865bcf84698/8bb6bbb788d97c50c5820e9a9ce134fa/deep/0/Make-your-donation-now---Payments.png We can improve upon Wikimedia's solution. We should keep the title "Make your donation now" but we should localize the title and other text on the page using L10N or Transifex. This page does NOT need a lot of design, and should stay very simple! I believe the process would be: 1. Create a template page in US-EN (could we use Wordpress or what solution should we use for this?) 2. Clone a new page for each currency 3. Update the PayPal button code for a given currency for each new page 4. Add translated text to the new cloned page that matches the currency 5. Add an index to our "Ways to Give" page that links each currency name to the respective page.
Could I do this with jekyll and use transifex live?

I don't think we are ready for Transifex Live, Aki. Simply Transifex Live is still in beta and their API change very frequent. Also, we have to use their API for dropdown language, language detection and we can't download the resource file and put it in our app.

I just had an idea. Does it make the most sense to just make these as 22 donate pages on BSD?
Flags: needinfo?(andrea)
I'm not sure I follow. I was trying to emulate Wikimedia's treatment of paypal currency pages here: http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Ways_to_Give#paypal What are the advantages of building these in BSD? I'm always a fan of "simpler" but I thought foregoing BSD was simpler.... do tell!
Flags: needinfo?(andrea)
Pretend for a moment this wasn't ugly as sin: I just made this in like 5 minutes on BSD to donate in pesos https://sendto.mozilla.org/page/content/2014-donate-ps/
ohhhhh. Neato! But, I got this error when I clicked "submit query": http://note.io/1FTS1cJ But I see what you're saying.... it's just a page template. Works for me if it works!
How does this look for mexican pesos? (it works!) https://sendto.mozilla.org/page/content/2014-donate-MXN/

One issue I didn't anticipate: http://note.io/1p4MATd 20 MXN = $1.52 USD. That will barely cover the PP fee! We have 2 choices: A. adjust the actual amounts on each and every currency -- OR b. we follow Wikimedia's lead and just provide an "0.00" field that people fill in (I'm going to guess this wildly differing value of currencies is why they did it that way). I'd vote for door #2 to simplify.

Andrea, who will make the final decision regarding the 2 choices you outlined above?
Hey Simon -- were you able to build out the currency conversion table for this? We're checking in and Aki needs that to move to next steps.
Flags: needinfo?(simon)
* Assigning this from Aki to Simon, since we're waiting for Simon to build the currency conversion table * Marking [P1], as this is high priority

* Aki may have found another solution -- Simon is waiting for an answer from Aki
Flags: needinfo?(aki)
This is actually p2—sequential is the p1 here, and I hesitate to mark everything as p1, thus negating its value. Once sequential is shipped, we'll look at which donation amount approach is the best option.

note: Kelli noticed that we received an error from PayPal about donating in Singapore (see: https://www.paypal.com.sg/charity/) Result: We are eliminating Singapore from our PayPal list of forms to build for now. We can revisit later, but it is a very low priority given the low donation rates from Singapore to Mozilla Foundation.
I've been seeing some failed transactions coming in from Singapore. Do you think that's related, or just that the individual used a bad cc?
