I've been trying to upgrade to Mozilla 0.9.5 from 0.9.4 for some time now, but
I've run into the same problem on two separate machines. They are both running
Red Hat 7.1 with a 2.4.8+ (I've switched often with no changes) kernel. I'm
running XFree86 4.10. One machine has an NVidia GeForce 2 GTS card, and the
other has an ATI Radeon. When I run Mozilla 0.9.5 as root, it looks fine, but
the user interface and content are really corrupted and don't really show up
much at all when I run it as a regular user. I've tried deleting my previous
.mozilla files. I've made sure it's loading the correct libraries. I have the
C++ library the release notes say is required. I even tried making the
installation writable by my user, and nothing thus far has worked. I also tried
creating an entirely new user to make sure no extra config files were causing
problems. I have a screen shot if you need it. I've downloaded a number of
nightly builds, and I haven't seen the problem resolved yet, so I thought you
should know about it.
Try running each component (mailnews, composer..) once as root.
Is the problem still visible as a normal user afterwards?

I just tried that with no luck. I did, however, figure out that it doesn't
appear to have as much to do with what user is using it as it does with the
profile. I tried removing the .mozilla files from both root and my user's
accounts, and they both displayed the corruption after that. I tried running all
of the components as root, but that didn't help. I then tried downloading a
fresh nightly build, removing all .mozilla directories, and running all the
programs again. It still didn't work, but the corruption went away as soon as I
started using the old .mozilla directory for root again. It was actually
imported from the communicator browser that my distribution came with. One
profile within it works fine, and the other doesn't. Are there any other config
files that I'm missing? I deleted the /usr/local/mozilla directory before
installing the new one, so there definitely wasn't anything leftover there.

Mark, can you please try this again with a newer version of Mozilla? 0.9.7 or
even a nightly build: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/nightly/latest/
If you still see the problem, please try creating a NEW profile instead of
importing your netscape 4 profile. Your old profile may be possibly corrupted
somehow.
This worksforme on Linux 2002011921 and has for as long as I know.

Hi,
I am using a CVS version that I compiled about a week ago. I figured out
that the problem goes away if I set the DPI to 96dpi in the font preferences
dialog instead of to system setting. This explains why it changed with the
profiles. I have had the same problem using an ATI Radeon SDR as well as with an
NVidia GeForce2 GTS. I am running XFree86 4.1 on both systems. I verified that
my DisplaySize if properly configured in XF86Config. I have not had any other
dpi related issues with either system. Thanks for the help.
