Steps to reproduce:

Created xmmp chat account (Slack) in Thunderbird 31. I activated notifications for new chat messages in the Preference settings.


Actual results:

I receive notifications for direct chat messages, but not for messages that are posted to any chat rooms I joined. I can see all these messages, but do not get notified of them.


Expected results:

Get a notification if there are new messages in *any* of my ongoing conversations, including chat rooms.

In chat rooms, notifications will only be displayed if someone is mentioning you (your nick) in a message.

I see, thanks for the feedback. And yes, notifications are indeed working if someone is mentioning my nick.

Now, can I convert this bug report into a feature request then? I am required to follow several chat rooms at work and it is getting pretty annoying to manually check each one of them periodically to see if anyone has posted any messages. Other xmmp clients, like Pidgin, support general notifications, but it would be nice to have all my communication handled by Thunderbird.

A notification for each message is something an add-on could fairly easily achieve, along the lines of https://addons.instantbird.org/en-US/instantbird/addon/341.

But there is already a visible indication of new messages in a channel in the TB chat UI. The channel name is printed in bold and the number of unread messages is displayed.

https://addons.mozilla.org/thunderbird/addon/chat-notifier-for-thunderbid should also notify on every message.
