the filename "panacea.dat" is really really bad. Why not rename it to "Folder Summaries.dat"
8.3 limitation on some platforms, for one thing.
filenames with spaces are no good...:)
We could worry about that if we ever ported Mozilla to MS-DOS. We'd have to stop naming mail folders after the names of the servers, too.
MS-DOS? What is? :) btw, IMHO there are some (many?) more important bugs to resolve before this.
reassigning to bienvenu.
yeah, there are probably at leat 50,000 more important bugs to fix - if we ever need to rev the version on this file so that we lose backwards compatibility, then changing the name would be OK. But as is, if we diverge on the name, counts will get off if you use different builds.
os/2's fat driver has the same limitation as dos.
Why does the panacea.dat file disappear on W2K at random and crash your system?
running two copies/instances of mozilla against the same profile will corrupt panacea.dat - other than that, I don't know why it would get corrupted and disappear.
adding firstname.lastname@example.org to cc list in order to see my response to his question.
WRT OS/2: only its FAT file system support has the same name length limitation as MS-DOS. Mozilla on OS/2 can't be installed on FAT due to many other non 8.3 file names, so it does not need to be an issue if this one ever gets changed.
I have a write problem with "panacea.dat", because i try share a mail profile/folder for group mailing reasons. How is the correct way/setup to share a profile for group mail functionality with mozilla mail? (No, i cannot use IMAP) THX Harald
folders.dat would be better, if that is indeed its purpose
I think Joshua will fix this with his work to use sqlite instead of Mork for the folder cache.
joshua, david, can we deep six this, or dupe it to bug 418551?
not a dup, but if someone fixes bug 418551, they could rename the file at the same time.
