It should be easy to configure Fira Sans as default font for DEBUG build. Of course the user would need to install them himself (it seems too difficult and cumbersome to download and bundle them in a script).

The upstream for the fonts is http://www.carrois.com/fira-3-1/#download, we can maybe output this to the console at the end of a DEBUG build.

As of the last patch from bug 993137 ("Use Firefox OS fonts on B2G Desktop") desktop B2G runtimes will have the right font prefs to use Fira, Fira Sans and Fira Mono.

Then, there are two different ways to install the fonts from https://github.com/mozilla-b2g/moztt:
- Install them manually on your system
- Or install them in your B2G runtime, in obj-xxx/dist/bin/fonts (using "MOZTTDIR=/path/to/moztt" in your mozconfig).

The second method is used to bundle the Fira fonts with Mulet and B2G Desktop builds on tbpl, and for Simulator addons, so if you download any of them you'll already have the correct fonts.
