password manager stores whatever username it is told to store by mailnews. So the problem, if there is one, is in the call that mailnews is making to password manager. Reassigning.

Do you have a server I can test this on? news://poisonivy.mcom.com/xrated saves my correct user/pass on a 200 poisonivy.mcom.com Netscape-Collabra/3.5 33623 server.
get an account on http://news.cis.dfn.de/en/register.html and try
Terri, Jennifer, what is supposed to be stored in password manager? I'm attaching the screenshot. In this case, it's grabbing my username ('stephend') from my IMAP account, when it should be grabbing 'donner' (as username), from the account that was setup on http://news.cis.dfn.de/en/register.html. Even though we save the password field for IMAP, we don't list it in the Password Manager. Should we be doing the same for news? My NNTP spec doesn't currently cover what values should *appear* in the Password Manager, but I can tell you, it *stores* them correctly, as between sessions, my information is remembered correctly. Confirming. This seems valid.

I signed up for an account, but you are right, we should be grabbing username, I'll update after I have an account at this site (I have to wait for them to email me back :-( )

that's the way we store passwords for news. I don't think that's the problem. However, we may not be forgetting bad passwords...

Nowadays, the username is merely being set to "not set" (on Linux 2.0.0.20pre, 20090103), so RESO WFM.
