Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:33.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/33.0
Build ID: 20141014145224
Steps to reproduce:
1. Start Firefox from a command prompt (in safe-mode or not)
2. Wait for the assert failures listed below to occur.
3. At a command prompt call setxkbmap us
Firefox immediately and reliably locks up on step [3].
Actual results:
After starting Firefox from a command prompt the following assert failures occur. Once they have, a call to setxkbmap causes Firefox to lock up.
(process:16185): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion 'sys_page_size == 0' failed
(firefox:16185): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: cannot register existing type 'GdkKeymap'
(firefox:16185): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_once_init_leave: assertion 'result != 0' failed
(firefox:16185): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_keymap_have_bidi_layouts: assertion 'GDK_IS_KEYMAP (keymap)' failed

In my case that was because of Firetray 0.5.6.1 addon...
You may try the fix from Arch too (the removal of mozilla/plugins/libevbrowserplugin.so) https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/42422
It is caused by pressing any multimedia key for example...
