Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:36.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/36.0
Build ID: 20141019030207
Steps to reproduce:
Select any of numerous options (large majority) in the Options window by clicking the associated text to the right of the checkbox. For example, enable/disable the "Open new windows in a new tab instead" preference on the General page of Options.
Actual results:
The setting is correctly updated, however, a flashing text cursor is also seen at the location where the text was clicked.
Expected results:
Given this is not an interactive text widget (no text can be modified) it should probably not result in a flashing text input cursor.

This is being tested on a 64-bit Firefox build; unconfirmed if the issue affects 32-bit Firefox builds.

I'm unable to reproduce this on latest Nightly.
Could you try to see if this reproduces using:
1. A clean profile: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles
2. Safe mode: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode

Surely a 64-bit Firefox build issue. I'm not able to repro it with the 32-bit Nightly.

FWIW, this sounds like you have caret browsing turned on. In about:config, turn off accessibility.browsewithcaret and perhaps accessibility.browsewithcaret_shortcut_enabled, too.

Confirm caret browsing was indeed the case. Apologies for the wastage of everyone's time on this thread.
