Details
Reproducible on: - Nightly 36.0a1 (2014-10-20), - Aurora 35.0a2 (2014-10-19), - Firefox 34.0b1 (build2: 20141014134955), - Firefox 33.0 (20141011015303), using: Windows 7 64-bit, Mac OS X 10.9.5 and Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 32-bit. STR: 1. Launch Firefox. 2. Type the following input inside the Location Bar: 'test.)' (w/o the apostrophe). 3. Press the <enter> key. ER: A search is performed for 'test.)', since this is not a valid URL. AR: The user is redirected to a server error page. Additional notes: - This issue is not a regression, it's reproducible way back, on earlier builds of Firefox as well. - This issue is reproducible only with special characters that are usually encoded in a URL: !, ", #, $, %, &, ), (, *, +, -, /, =, <, ?, @, ], etc. - As a comparison, Internet Explorer 10 and Google Chrome 38 perform a search for that input.

I think we should fix this only after taking the fixup service out of docshell and into toolkit JS. It's technically fixable before then, but I'd really prefer to not waste bz/smaug's time with more mucking around in there unless absolutely necessary (and considering this isn't a regression, I don't think this counts).
