[Firefox 10th] MDN Banner Update (design)
>>Project Overview:
We met with the MDN earlier this week to scope out a ad-like campaign on MDN. Something that hasn't been done before but they see the value in promoting Dev Edition to their audience.
Think of these as content ads focused on generating awareness to a developer audience.
I took a stab at the messaging and sharing FWIW:
"Build the web with Firefox Developer Edition. The only browser designed for developers like you. Learn more."
That being said, this is the ask: see slide 15 of this deck: https://docs.google.com/a/mozilla.com/presentation/d/11Nvz2KQkOANQehKaiuYteP_-9xyqb7g859rLX_f6hTk/edit#slide=id.g4306d026b_023

Hi Lizz,
Slide 15 of the deck (Comment #0) shows what looks like, system-type that's next to the graphic - not copy that's actually within the banner itself.
If this is correct, then the assets themselves should be the Developer Edition logo alone.
Can you confirm?

Hi Lee, I'm unsure. I filed the bug on Arcadio's behalf.
Arcadio, can you help us out?

Not sure what is being referred to here but all ad placements will need a background, a logo and copy.
Additionally, we have another opportunity within the high-traffic sections of MDN to place an ad of the following dimensions:
The design should include a 728x90 and a 220x250 size
Can we include that as part of the scope.
In regards to timing, can we do a workback schedule that has us delivering files on Nov 3? This should include some time to review together and review with the MDN team.

Hey Arcadio. I think the issue is that the placements referred to in the slide deck don't necessarily match the sizes requested. It looks like most of the graphics are simply the logo, with the text done as system type (meaning, HTML instead of being part of the graphic asset) next to it.
Given that, and the additional placements needed (from comment #3), can you list out what Lee needs to create? Once we have that we can give a better estimate on the workback timing from Nov 3.
Wrote this in an email earlier:
The comps I show in the preso is what I mocked up to persuade MDN to let us place ads there.
The dimensions I provided are what MDN gave us after I met with them. So the dims won't match the placement in the presentation bc we're kinda doing a new thing.
We're at Wednesday already. Should we meet tomorrow to make sure we know the plan?
Here are the specs pulled from above:
1. Top page banner: logo and copy only
2. Front page tile ad: Logo on one-color background and copy
- Dimensions: 432px x 168px
3. Tile ad: Logo on one-color background and copy
- Dimensions: 250 px x 169 px
4. Developer Edition Intro on Dev Tools (replacing Aurora copy): https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Tools
Copy only. This can be pulled from product page copy deck.
5. 728x90 and a 220x250 size
Hi all,
Please take a look at these banners and let me know if I'm missing anything:

Please disregard items in Comment #6
No-news sounded like good-news to me, Lizz...
Arcadio, Matej and/or Eric may be able to shed light if these are approved.

I thought I replied to this one earlier today.
I mentioned that the banner ads were missing the CTA: Learn more.
I also made minor comments to the copy doc that I'm hoping to receive from Troy today.
Would love to have these ready to show for the 4PM meeting Eric is having with Cbeard today.

Hey all,
I just made some revisions in the doc to address Arcadio's comments. I think the missing "Learn more" CTA is my fault — we were having a back and forth in the copy bug and I thought we were taking out. Having said that, I don't actually think it's needed, especially if our copy is going to read "Check out Firefox Developer Edition…" — maybe we can just include the active link arrows (») after the line.
What do you think?

AH! I was making that comment bc I noticed the "Learn more" in the gdoc : )
I always think giving the user a hint of what we're asking them to do is always better: learn more, download, watch, read.
I vote for Learn more or CTA that tells them what we want them to do.

Thanks, Arcadio. I'm cool with that.
The doc has been revised to include the "Learn more" button copy.

Hey all,
So bringing this up here, but going to try and look into it further:
http://cl.ly/image/0w2C3K0F3c1k
The ads that went out were changed after Lee sent along the PSDs. The buttons were changed to non-standard buttons (we no longer use rounded buttons due to localization concerns) and I'm curious who made that call outside Creative?
If anyone knows, please give a shout.
Thanks!
