Build Information Gaia-Rev 1e48e3e40e0780c0cd07a3457e5fe2efeeb542d1 Gecko-Rev https://hg.mozilla.org/releases/mozilla-b2g34_v2_1/rev/09fb60a37850 Build-ID 20141023001201 Version 34.0 Device-Name flame Base image: v188 Pre-requisites: Have an existing Firefox Account Steps to Reproduce 1. Go through FTU until you set up your Firefox Account 2. Enter your existing FxA's email 3. Tap "Forgot your password?" link Actual results You have an error messages which reads that you have to go to settings to change you password. I guess the current implementation was added in bug 980638 to avoid to have browser that can't be closed. Expected results I don't know what's the best solution. Nevertheless, my workflow of setting up my Firefox account was broken during FTU. Hence, I am not sure this is the best first time experience for people who forget their password. What's UX take on this?

Starting with Jacqueline, though this may be for John.

The problem context has changed a little since bug 1070058, in which we ensure all browser windows created in the FTU are closable. That said, doing a password reset does seem outside of the scope of the kinds of things we want to do in FTU. It would be nice to somehow add these "todos" with links to the right settings screen after FTU is complete (notification?). Otherwise we are leaving the user to rummage around in there and find for themselves where they can pick up and complete this task.

sounds like a feature request, so not blocking.
I agree that the password reset seems outside of the scope of FTE (as you would need to access your email in order to change it?). I'm thinking it might be best to restrict access to the forget password link and instead inform users that they can sign up for FxA accounts in Settings and access password support from there. ni? on John to weigh in as the UX will be on the FxA side.

Agree with jsavory on this one. Password recovery is its own funnel, and I don't think we want to surface it in FTE.
