Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; WOW64; rv:33.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/33.0
Build ID: 20141011015303

Steps to reproduce:

1: Go to a website with a regular username/password login form. Probably works with other types of remembered info. I used https://github.com/ and https://cupcake.io.

2: Type in the full username of a remembered account, and press enter

Actual results:

Password fails.

Expected results:

Password should verify and succeed.
Could you test:
1) in safe mode: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode
2) with a clean profile: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles

Does it work normally?

The links you provided don't work for me, but I tested the problem on a fresh Profilist (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/profilist/?src=api) install and had the same problem.

Are you using an external password manager or a security suite that filters passwords or SSL traffic?
Is this essentially just a feature request?

I don't think I've never seen this work before: if neither the username nor the password is prefilled (usually because there are multiple logins for that site) and you type in the full username, you still need to select the login or tab out of the field - typing the username alone is not enough. Are you saying this used to work or works sometimes, but not all the time? Or do you just want it to work? :-)

Here's what I do to reproduce:

1. open private window
2. go to https://mail.google.com/
3. type in one of my gmail usernames
4. hit enter

This doesn't work. On the other hand, typing in the first bit, then using arrow down and hitting enter twice, it works because you actually select the login...

I don't have a password manager, and I have a McAfee plugin disabled.

I see what you're saying with the not selecting a username part. I remember using this several times, but maybe I A) misunderstand what I did, or B) don't remember correctly. If it's the case that this was never a feature, this can be switched to a feature request.

Summary: Remembered password is wrong when I press enter after typing the full username, but not when I select the username from the dropdown or tab into the password field → Entering just username for remembered username/password and hitting enter should be enough to submit form with correct credentials
Just figured out part of the reason I assumed it was a bug: if you type in the username and hit enter, it also fills in the password. However, the password isn't seen as correct, possibly because it's not being seen by the site. If this enhancement is turned down, it I would say it needs to be filed as a bug, as that shouldn't happen if the password isn't being entered.

It works as expected on GitHub in 2022. Lets reopen this if we have fresh steps to reproduce.
