Steps to reproduce:

1.) Install a fresh copy of Windows 8.1
2.) Install Thunderbird 31.2.0
3.) Connect to my email account via IMAP (without changing the preferences)
4.) When a new email arrives, you get the tone for a new message and the account name turns blue, but you don't see any new emails or see the number of new emails.


Actual results:

I have two accounts with the same provider, but one account works fine while the other does not. On the account that is causing the bug, only the inbox contents cannot be shown. The inbox contents show perfectly fine on K9 mail for my android phone.

I've cleaned out my inbox and sent a new test message to it so that only the test message was present in the inbox, but Thunderbird still didn't pull the list. As this account is my primary email address, I really need access to it through my PC, so if you need more information, please just ask. I'm a web developer with over 12 years of experience, so I'm no spring chicken when it comes to troubleshooting technology and this time I'm at a loss.


Expected results:

I should see a list of emails for my inbox or a dialogue box telling me that something was wrong and how to fix it.

Is this a gmail account?
Do you see it for non-gmail accounts?

It's not a GMail account causing the issue. I have two accounts with the same provider and only one has the issue.
