We have had discussions recently on removing channel links altogether as they point spammers to public channels.

We've made the decision to remove the channels in MOTD altogether. Those channels seem to serve as a starter list for spammers and bots. Given the limited resources with handling and fighting abuse, the decision to remove those channels stands to be small but hopefully significant.
