Steps to reproduce:

Starting e-mail app with flight mode on Alcatel Otf with Os 1.3


Actual results:

The message e-mails loading is shown a very short time. So when someone is in a hurry and do not realise being in flight mode he checks his mails, no new mails. 


Expected results:

An additional message/reminder that informs the user being in flight mode and so cannot receive emails at the moment.

In general, I do not believe the UX pattern is to pre-emptively warn the user they are offline until they do something that triggers online use. Which is what happens in email now:

1) Tapping the sync button will trigger a "Cannot connect to server"
2) Composing then trying to send an email "Network unavailable. Email saved to outbox" (in the current master code, not in 1.3)
3) Bug 950236 is tracking a fix to the message reader to show a "cannot show message right now, offline" kind of message.

So I do not expect there are UX plans to add more messaging for this scenario, but confirming with email UX lead.

Agree with James.
Even if we do want to provide an error message, it should be considered comprehensively across all apps since it's not only effect email app but also other apps that need data connection. Popping up window all the time when users open apps under airplane mode might not a friendly experience:(

I was requesting this from the end user (newbie) point of view. It is obvious in the status bar (airplane symbol) that it is not possible to check emails.In my opinion if i make an action (touching email app for loading new mails) i expect a response from the Os if my action was successful (i can see that when new emails are loading) or not and if not why not (airplane mode).
