User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:29.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/29.0 Build ID: 20140428193838 Steps to reproduce: I generally leave Firefox open for months at a time. Firefox has started nagging me with "It looks like you haven't started Firefox in a while..." about a month ago, even though I use Firefox every single day. This is related to bug 498181... Actual results: Firefox bothers me with "It looks like you haven't started Firefox in a while..." Expected results: Don't bother people with that message (and the crazy Reset stuff) if they use Firefox every single day. The stuff implemented in 498181 seems fragile, to say the least.
The best part of this ridiculous "feature" is that hitting "X" just brings the notification back after a few seconds/minutes/hours (depending).

You are using a very old Firefox version and should update due to the known security bugs in that version.
Blocks: 498181

The version is completely unrelated to the underlying issue. I've seen the same issue on e.g. Firefox 31. I can reasonably expect to leave my browser open for as long as I need to without having to endure a flurry of those notifications. (And yes, it's a flurry, it's not just "one every 60 days", it's one every time firefox feels like it [presumably after those 60 or whatever days]). At the very least, I'd expect some option in about:config to disable it. It boggles the mind how this "feature" could be useful to anyone, but that's not a discussion I'm interested in having.

How is this a duplicate? this is about Firefox being open for that period of time, not about not having been started in 60-odd days. It's a bug, plain and simple, that it shows that message even though the browser has been open all along.

Also, browser.disableResetPrompt doesn't exist. It might have existed at some point, but definitely doesn't exist currently.
All the prefs are not visible in about:config, if it doesn't exist, create it yourself.

Confirmed, seen on Mac OS X. STR: * Install Firefox (at the time, 37 Beta on OS X 10.8, but I doubt it matters). * Use it for two straight months without restarting the machine or relaunching Firefox. If anything, we should offer to install updates and relaunch Firefox, not to reset the active profile.
