We added a temporary workaround for some db weirdness in Bug 1057892. Once that's resolved properly we should remove the workaround to clean up the code.

Sadly, this workaround doesn't seem to have made any difference and the error is still surfacing in production, albeit in a different way. Let's yank the apparently-useless workaround code.
