RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 1093571

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; WOW64; rv:33.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/33.0
Build ID: 20141105223254

Steps to reproduce:

1. Go to DuckDuckGo.com and add DuckDuckGo as a search engine
2. Set DuckDuckGo as the default search engine
3. Open the newtab page
4. Type "test" in the search bar and press enter

Extra for experts:
5. Change tabs after pressing enter but before the search has started

Actual results:

It takes a few seconds before Firefox begins the search

If you change tabs after pressing enter but before the search has started, your current tab will be hijacked and used to make the search, instead of the tab that you started the search from

This appears to have something to do with search suggestions; if you wait a couple of seconds before pressing enter, until the search suggestions come up and then press enter, the search happens instantly

Expected results:

Firefox should immediately start the search, not wait for a few seconds

Actually, a better search term to demonstrate this is a long sentence. For example, I quickly typed "this is a very long sentence that will surely take ages to load" and it took about 10 seconds before Firefox started making the search.
Thanks for filing! You're right it has to do with search suggestions. We actually already have another bug to cover this problem.
