User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:33.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/33.0 Build ID: 20141106120505 Steps to reproduce: I use a chat everyday for a very low frequency chat, like 3-4 messages per day, always around lunch time ;-) Actual results: The chat windows displays the messages and at the right the time. Expected results: In addition to the time, it would be helpful if the date would be displayed (or if that was configurable), because I am always unsure what day the message was sent. One even better way could be to have a separation line between days (similar to how it is done in WhatsApp). With a separating line, it would be sufficient to display the time only (looks nicer I guess). See attached screenshots for a suggestion how it could look like with a separation line.

After bug 1025522 lands all that is needed to do something similar is to add session start ruler CSS for TB.

Thank you for your very quick response. Sometimes sessions might be longer than 1 day and sometimes there might be multiple sessions per day. I personally would like to have one line per day, thus separating the chat into days, not sessions. Or is this possible using "sessions start rule CSS"?

(In reply to Matthis from comment #2) > I personally would like to have one line per day, thus separating the chat > into days, not sessions. If you look at the linked bug, you'll find its purpose is to stop sessions growing too long, in particular there will automatically be a new session every day.
I should have read more than just the title & original report. After reading all comments I agree that the solution for bug 1025522 should be helpful for adding separators to the chat.
