From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:0.9.5+) Gecko/20011018 Netscape6/6.5 BuildID: 200101419 If you set an automatic proxy and then change to direction connection Mozilla will continue to use the automatic proxy till you clear the automatic proxy textbox and restart Mozilla. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Set an automatic proxy 2. Change to direct connection Actual Results: It still uses the automatic proxy Expected Results: It should stop using the proxy and directly access the network.
Invoking secret signals of the PAC order and shortening the summary; I'll go test this out.

Summary: If a automatic proxy is set you must clear the textbox and restart mozilla to disable it → PAC: must clear the textbox and restart mozilla to disable automatic proxy
WFM 20011114 linux trunk CVS build. Your BuildID looks like it's missing a digit or two... I assume it's from the middle of October? Try this with a recent nightly and see if the problem still occurs.
"secret signals?" I'll publish the PAC bug management bureacracy to mozilla.org soon. Then it can be everyone's secret :)
Seem to be fixed in the 2001111412 nightly build.

I have seen weirdness where a failed PAC has caused the window to go deaf (i.e., if you do new window, everything works in the new window.
