Hi Markus, I'm Andrea Wood and I'm Director of Digital Fundraising at Mozilla. Thank you so much for filing this bug and I'm glad to answer your question. We take privacy and security for our donors and users very seriously.

There are many different ways to give to Mozilla. You can find a list here: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Ways_to_Give

If you choose to give using a credit card, in order to process a credit card payment our vendor must verify a donor's identity in order to prevent fraud and protect the credit card user. We ask for the minimum information required in order to process a credit card payment. We also ask for email address because we are a 501c3 non-profit organization and we are required to provide individuals with a receipt for tax purposes.

We also accept Paypal. If you have a PayPal login you are redirected to your PayPal account without entering any personal information on our site to complete your donation.

We also accept bitcoin donations, which only requires an email address so we can send you a receipt.

You can also send cash by mail anonymously, though we discourage this because it is actually not a very secure way to send money.
