I'd like to see the ability to tap+hold on a Message thread in the Messages app to launch it into a new card. Sometimes, you'll find yourself carrying on multiple concurrent conversations and having to constantly back out to the Message Thread list and then back into the other conversation is not only cumbersome, but a really ugly workflow. If we were able to manually launch Message Threads into new cards, this situation would no longer be necessary. The users who don't find this a problem can continue using the old workflow, but users who find this cumbersome can opt to launch whatever conversations into new cards so they can simply swipe back and forth to keep up with multiple conversations, saving much navigating about.

Actually this is something that's kind of planned using the name "Haida". I don't think we planned to keep one open though, but once we have cards, it should be doable. Let's keep the bug open for now.

Julien, When I'm referring to "Cards", I'm referring to the current (as of v2.2 nightly) implementation where each card represents a process or app. What is this new system of cards?

This is about the Task Manager. The UX Frameworks team can evaluate, as this would be a big change to the way long press is intended to be used in UX patterns. This is also not in the 2.2 backlog, which will be a small release. Marking for later 2.3 consideration, pending OS-wide pattern review of long press behavior (which, as with many other things, will also involve patent review).

It follows the tap+hold convention of the Browser, though, so it shouldn't be completely alien. Can we not have it open a similar "action" menu, with one of the options being "Open in new card/window"?

I think tap+hold in the browser uses the link href attribute; I suppose we could try to make it work, as we also use a link for the thread. But this is quite long term for sure.

But this is > quite long term for sure. I'm patient. Semi-patient. :P As long as it is possibly workable, I'm happy. I guarantee you it'll change your life for the better and be the best part of your day! *Can't actually guarantee this, but 99% sure it'll make using Messages much nicer ;)
