1105329 - Sometimes search suggestions are not displayed

Reproducible on: Firefox 34.0 (build 2/ 20141125180439) *intermittently*.
Affected platform(s): Windows 7 64-bit, Windows 8 32-bit, Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 32-bit and Mac OS X 10.9.5.

Ran into this issue several times today. Unfortunately I don't have proper STR in order to get this.
I will further investigate it and hopefully I will be able to get some reliable steps to reproduce it.

Also reproducing in Firefox 34.0 build 1 / 20141124205320.
When getting this, the Browser Console throws the following error: https://pastebin.mozilla.org/7581399

Unable to reproduce it on Firefox 33.1.1, build ID: 20141113143407.

This contains:
SearchSuggestionController: HTTP Timeout SearchSuggestionController.jsm:331

(When you are pasting only one line, could you please do it in the bug directly? Thanks!)

This looks to me like a server issue, in which case it will be intermittent, and more or less impossible to find steps to reproduce. The screenshot you showed still looks broken though, we are supposed to include at least what the user typed when there's no suggestion.

The screenshot implies Google as the default search. Is that the case? Is it calling yahoo search suggest or google search suggest?

Could you please clarify if you are seeing this bug with Google, Yahoo or both?

Also, when you get the "SearchSuggestionController: HTTP Timeout" error, is the panel looking exactly like on the screenshot from comment 0, that is the suggestion area is completely collapsed and doesn't even show a row for what the user typed?

The issue is slightly different, depending on what Search Engine is used.

I'm only seeing this with Google, the panel looks like the screenshot from comment 0 and the suggestion area is completely empty.

When using Yahoo, the typed terms are shown in the suggestion area and only the search suggestions are missing (just as Bogdan mentioned in bug 1105794).

The Yahoo issue is not something we can fix (it's been discussed in bug 1105794).

The issue if Google is something we would want to fix if we could reproduce. I'm resolving as INCOMPLETE, but please reopen if you find steps to reproduce the broken suggestion panel.
