User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:34.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/34.0
Build ID: 20141126041045

Steps to reproduce:

Since upgrading to ff 34.0.5 this morning, I can not longer pick out alternate search tools from my search bar by clicking the tiny down arrow. All I get is "Change search settings". Makes it a pain in the neck to switch from DuckDuckGo to Dictionary.com
If the new single click thing is the way yo want to go now, you should at least remove the little down arrow. Or you could always give us the functionality back
Same behavior with FF 34.0.5, Win7 SP1 (fully updated). UA: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:34.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/34.0. Changing search engines is only available via Tools | Options | Search.
Component: Untriaged → Search
OS: Linux → All
Hardware: x86_64 → All
The new UI changed the way a search engine is set as default and simplified one-click searches.

To return to the old UI just set browser.search.showOneOffButtons pref to false in about:config.

Then get rid of the little down arrow

It would be very helpfull if you can change the default search engine on the fly. I casually use them more than once in row, so it always resets during the next search. I dont get why the respective engine icon was replaced with a noninformative loupe.

Best solution would be a setting if the selected search engine should become default.
I have also noticed since 34.0.5, I can only change my default provider and can no longer do the one time select of a different provider
The little down arrow shows there's a menu underneath the inputbox. If the inputbox is empty, the only thing there is "change search settings", which will let you change the search settings as you requested. There are separate bugs on file for making alt/ctrl-arrow do the right thing.

As filed, we won't fix the bug so you can change search providers using the arrow keys. You can use tab and shift-tab to switch search providers for just that search.
