User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:34.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/34.0 Build ID: 20141201171754 Steps to reproduce: 1. Open an e-mail encoded in any charset other than ASCII in a tab. I tried ISO-8859-1, ISO-2022-JP and UTF-8 2. Use "Move to New Window" in the tabs sub-menu or drag the tab. Actual results: In the new window the text is rendered as ASCII. As a result non-ASCII characters are unreadable. The text in other tabs / windows is correctly rendered. Expected results: The text is rendered according to the charset defined in the e-mail.
Attached file Example E-Mail
I attached an example e-mail, which shows the described bug.
Confirming that I am also experiencing this problem. Thunderbird version: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:38.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/38.3.0
Can you still reproduce this when using version 52 or 54 beta? I am unable to reproduce using 54.0b2

(In reply to Wayne Mery (:wsmwk) from comment #3) > Can you still reproduce this when using version 52 or 54 beta? > I am unable to reproduce using 54.0b2 Sorry for the late reply. This got somehow lost in my e-mails. Yes, I can still reproduce it under Arch Linux, but not with the official build. Could this be an incompatibility with gcc7?

I can still reproduce the bug under Arch Linux, I'll check the official build tonight.
Hi Wayne, I have checked the latest official binary build (52.8.0, Italian, Linux x64) under Arch Linux, the bug is also there, thus, I feel this might not be a GCC 7 incompatibility.

Summary: "Move to New Window" on tab breaks encoding → "Move to New Window" from a tab breaks encoding - renders non-ASCII as ASCII
I can not reproduce this issue with version 60.0 on Arch Linux.
Thanks for the update! Keep them coming :)
