User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:34.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/34.0
Build ID: 20141126041045

Steps to reproduce:

I use the reply below quoted text setting in account settings.

Select a e-mail and press the Reply button.

Actual results:

It annoys me that the cursor is place on the following line.
Right after the quoted text.

Expected results:

I would prefer and extra newline to be inserted below the quoted text, so there is 1 extra newline between the quoted text and where the cursor appears.
This problem persists under Thunderbird 45.5.1 for me.

When I set quoted text above and reply below I get the same problem.

When I have quoted text below and reply above, then the message starts out with two <CR><LF> sequences so that there is proper white space.

$ Right back at you, Alice!

If I have a signature set to the very bottom, then I get white space as well.

$ Right back at you, Alice!

$ On November 21, Alice wrote:
$ > Hello, Bob!
$ >

$ --
$ Bob Z.
$ bob@dreams.ac

However, if I set it to quoted text above and reply below, I get the following:

$ On November 21, Alice wrote:
$ > Hello, Bob!
$ >
$ My reply is looking a bit crowded
$
$ --
$ Bob Z.
$ bob@dreams.ac

After the last line quoted from the original e-mail ("> " with anything or nothing after it), there should be two sequences of <CR><LF> so that there is one line of white space before writing the reply as such:

$ On November 21, Alice wrote:
$ > Hello, Bob!
$ >
$
$ Enjoying the breathing room!
$
$ --
$ Bob Z.
$ bob@dreams.ac

A side note: I also filed Bug 1323375 to address the fact that replies will quoted the terminal <CR><LF> sequence of quoted plain text and will delete one of the final sequences of <CR><LF>, but only if there are two or more whereas forwards always delete exactly one trailing <CR><LF>.
