When you start running the Mac OS X .smi file, you will get the license file at
the beginning. Notice if you choose Japanese, there will be both Japanese and
English descritption, while other languages (de, fr) only have one. I think we
might want to just include Japanese in Japanese license part, cause we have
option to choose English, French, Japanese...etc. like other Mac OS X
applications do.

Not sure what is this about. Could you attach a screen shot?

We can choose the language through the drop down list, however, the Japanese
part has both JA and US version, if you choose some other language like german
will see only one language there.

Looks like this is a L10N issue, reassign to yxia@netscape.com.

This could be a legal issue, if we remove the English description, should we
add some lines to Japanese license, to say "the English one is the legal
license"? The current JA license says so, but in different way.

The English version does not need to be included with the JA text. The
translation of the license agreement will include the paragraph stating that
translations of the English version are provided for convenience only and that
the official version is the English version. BTW, that's a paraphrase - the
binding version is in the actual license ;)
As long as the user has easy access to (and can easily switch back to) the
English version, then we do not need to display the English version in the same
window as the JA text -- it can be like the DE, FR, etc versions.

jj, I can provide you a pure Japanese license, so you can put it in the new OS X
build. For future releases, I think we need a process to check in the Japanese
license somewhere for you. Let me know if we can do anything about it.
Since only the OS X build contains both English and Japanese license, the
Japanese translation could be slightly different with other platforms, with a
statement like Mike said above. Other platforms still need a mixed license.

We should make sure, this is the case (As long as the user has easy access to
(and can easily switch back to) the English version), if we are gonna provide a
JA version only.

Yes, in the OS X installer (the smi), there is a dropdown menu which user can
swtich the license language. And the English one is always default for both US
version and JA version.

I've updated the content of the JA license on both OSX release build systems
(trunk and branch). Starting tomorrow, the OSX build should display a "Japanese
only" license agreement when "Japanese" is selected in the language menu.
Ying-Lin, I could technically grab the text from a checked-in text file rather
than a local binary file, but I'm afraid we might encounter encoding problems
doing so, or at least line-ending problems (cvs will automatically convert CRs
to LFs on checkout). It will require more work to make this process seamless.

btw, this is bugzilla. such netscape-specific bug, especially now that it
includes Netscape EULA, should live in bugscape instead. (it seems like the
"netscape confidential" feature is gone.)

Bug moved to bugscape, http://bugscape/show_bug.cgi?id=11790
Mark this as FIXED since jj updated the JA license already.
Yuying, please verify it tomorrow and close this bug.
I will keep jj updated with the latest JA license in the bugscape bug.
