try this:

1) install gnome and its high-contrast themes (eg default Ubuntu installation).

open gedit. select text in gedit. open another window. Observe selection color when the window is focused and unfocused. Apply the accesibility black on white theme. Observe selection with this theme. Apply the acessibility white on black theme) or DarkLooks or other such theme. Observe the selection color.

2) run firefox

select text in location bar, address bar and web page. with different themes applied. Observe how that color differs from that of gedit selection.

Since the selection color is almost never the same you can see that your selection theming is bogus.
