First of all please accept my apology for requesting this large text to be translated in short notice. I'm not sure who is the right person to assign to, but I have this bug cloned so if there is any mistake please correct me. We are trying to translate Mitchell Baker's EOY email that is going to be send out to around 4 million users in 4 languages (es, fr, pt-BR and de). I have attached the email that needs to be translated. Deadline: December 25th, 2014 If this is not possible or there is something wrong please let me know. Thanks!

First draft of EOY email campaign translation to es-ES. Please, Inma, can you review and make changes as appropriate? Thanks a lot.

Please, Inma, can > you review and make changes as appropriate? Thanks a lot. It turns out that LibreOffice corrupted the translated RTF file. I've recovered the contents and put it in a Google Drive document, fixing minor glitches on the way: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1GEyUaTSBfJQgdprm8QySIvJZqQ4M7MSPQOS0gRwxxgQ/edit Inma, I'm about to invite you to review it. Once it is ready, could you please export the file into RTF format and attach it here? Thank you. :-)

Who should get the proof? Also, have the images been localized? They will need to be.

So are we only going with the generic for l10n? What if the Mitchell one does great in the split test?

I think Kelli mentioned this, but we're not doing any testing outside us-en (too cumbersome)

Yup. Good to go with generics. Thanks.

Hi, Please find attached another reviewed version, with the changes in Track Changes still waiting to be approved. Corrections made have to do with capitalization of proper nouns of holiday days, use of coma with "ni", use of spaces and capitalization in the post scriptum abbreviation, avoidance of repetitions, use of "solo" without accent to maintain coherence, change to "sin fines de lucro" since "sin ánimo..." is not used in Latam according to Gabriela, change from "aportaciones" to "contribuciones" since some Latam members complained about it, and some really minor changes to improve the style. Please feel free to either accept or decline changes. I am happy to discuss further if needed. Happy Holidays! Hanna

"Apportes" is not a valid word in Spanish: http://www.wordreference.com/es/en/translation.asp?spen=apportes The correct word is "aportes" ("aporte" in singular form): http://lema.rae.es/drae/?val=aporte

(In reply to Sabrina Ng [:sabrina] from comment #13) > I have received an email to change "aportación" to be "apportes" on the > graphic and I have updated the graphic. We discussed at length about the importance of localization in Portland. Since we have one bug for each locale and localizers CCed, it would be nice to not make such changes without consulting them, unless they're not responsive. At this point also curious where that email came from.

The email came from one of the Firefox + You localizers team. To generate the proof, I had to send the email to my normal testing list. They took it on themselves to help with the project. I can switch back to the old graphic if that is better.

(In reply to Ben Niolet from comment #19) > The email came from one of the Firefox + You localizers team. See comment 17 for the text. It's not a matter of better, but of correctness. I thought that the same people from Mozilla Hispano worked on newsletter localization for es-ES, apparently I'm wrong.

Some do, but there appears to be some different team members. The previous graphic has been added to the email. Proof incoming.

The previous graphic says: "Tu apportación nos ayuda a construir la Internet que necesita el mundo." If this is not correct, I will need Sabrina to re-do the text with what is written in comment 17 since I only have a flat (not layered) version of the image.

I'm not a Spanish localizer, just coordinating l10n ;-) When is this mail going out?

Dec. 30. Just trying to lock the versions down asap since I'll still need to create text versions and get the send ready to go. I forwarded the proof to all the team members on this bug and will watch for any updates here or in my inbox. Thanks flod. Enjoy your holidays!

I think the proposal to change from "aportaciones" to "aportes" came from this group: https://groups.google.com/d/msg/universomoz_spanish_newsletter/dGq3PBJXGqk/prkRH7wN3iQJ Probably to an English speaker it was easy to misread any "ap..." as "app...". To sort it out: "Aportación" and "aporte" are synonyms and mean "contribution", being their respective plural forms "aportaciones" and "aportes". So the image should read one of these two ways: - Tus aportes nos ayudan a construir... (the remaining does not change) - Tu aporte nos ayuda a construir... (the remaining does not change) I have to say that both ways sound probably as unnatural to Spaniards as "aportaciones" to Latam speakers. Perhaps a more neutral way would be: - Tu contribución nos ayuda a construir la Internet que necesita el mundo.

That change, "contribución", is proposed in the attachment that I made yesterday, because of the same reasons. Can it be checked out and corrections considered helpful applied? Thanks!

Additionally, please see copy of part of an email that I already sent to all: ...The attachment that I made yesterday has corrections under track changes, so they need to be approved or dismissed before copying/coding the content. I have seen a proof now that has the original translation+the proposed changes, and therefore is not publishable. I haven't done it myself to respect the last opinion from the colleagues that have worked on this content... :)

Just an opinion, where it says «consumidores y expertos de la industria», I believe that «usuarios y expertos de la industria» sounds better. Maybe consumers in English is not directly attached to money, but I think in Spanish that relationship is better described like «usuarios»

Hey all, just wondering where this stands. Would it be possible to get a text file with agreed upon language? Can we do it in not a rich text version since it won't let us track changes? Also looks like there's some confusion on the graphic text -- can someone clarify what they proper way to go on that is?

Not sure why you NI me, besides trying to put in you in contact with localizers I can't give you answers ;-) Hopefully someone from the Spanish team will answer, but this is still holiday season for most.

First of all, Inma and I met IRL yesterday and we wondered whether the target audience matches the component of this bug. Is this text aimed just for Spanish speakers in Spain (es-ES), or for the global Spanish audience (neutral es)? Some of the correction requests have arisen from the LATAM side of the Spanish community, which is fine if the target is the global Spanish audience, but if it is not, then we've started a bunch of corrections over corrections which would lead us to nowhere. I have to say that I jumped into this bug because it was assigned to me as es-ES team owner, and I did it with the intention to relieve Inma from a bit of their workload (she usually deals with all the es-ES bugs not related to product UI l10n). Had I noticed from the start this was about a mailing list managed by other part of Mozilla Hispano L10n community, I wouldn't touched anything and the first draft, probably provided by Hanna, Inma or Berni, would have been better aligned with the target audience. Regarding the file format, we have simple been consistent with the original version, that's why we used RTF. Anyway, I'm uploading Hanna's version in TXT format, with two minor changes: 1) In the heading, I've suppressed the "Hola" that I put as a clue of the original "Hi, <first name>", that I changed to "¿Qué tal, <first name>?" since I found it closer to the reader. 2) In the P.S., I changed "Solo" to "solo" after the colon. About the graphic text, I think that we will all agree with this form that I suggested in the comment #25: - Tu contribución nos ayuda a construir la Internet que necesita el mundo.

Sorry if I contributed to the confusion, but there's no such thing as an 'es' component on Bugzilla (do we need one?). I assume the target is "globsl Spanish" already used in newsletter (I didn't realize it was part of it until I received the test the other day).

(In reply to Francesco Lodolo [:flod] from comment #33) > Sorry if I contributed to the confusion, but there's no such thing as an > 'es' component on Bugzilla (do we need one?). Hi, I think it might pretty useful to create an 'es' component, considering more bugs for 'International Spanish' content are likely to be opened in the future. It could also help ensure that Mozilla Marketing team will get their messages across, sparing l10n drivers (i.e. you ;)) from squandering their precious moments deciphering what Spanish variant/dialect to use. There is actually a bunch of products and marketing content that might be "labeled" as "International Spanish", such as Firefox OS, Firefox + You and Apps & Hacks newsletters, snippets, (more?) emailings... Also, the wiki page should be updated and completed, listing all the team members for quick and easy reference: https://wiki.mozilla.org/L10n:Teams:es What do you think?

(In reply to inma_610 from comment #35) > What do you think? It makes definitely sense to me. I'll talk with other l10n-drivers next week as soon as we're all back from holidays and file a bug to move on the discussion.
