Currently, the Image Editor does not load a high resolution preview so the user can not pan/zoom around the image to inspect it before/after edits/filters.

The most egregious offense of this particular limitation is when the need for careful cropping of an image is concerned. Capacitive touch is fairly accurate, but sometimes the user needs a bit more zoom on the image to be able to move the crop borders properly.

Furthermore, the ability to pan/zoom on the preview of the edits made would allow the user to inspect more closely whether or not the edits made have helped or hurt the photograph.

For me, I need to use my Smartphone to attach "scans" of work documents when I'm on site before I'm released from site. It would be invaluable for me to be able to carefully crop the sheets and preview whether or not my autofix+contrast adjustment have rendered the text clearer to see or whether or not the sheet has become overblown and worse than I started with WITHOUT having to save the image, fall back to Gallery, and then pan/zoom to inspect.

I forgot to mention, but obviously the Image Editor should follow the same pan/zoom behavior as the Gallery so that double-tap is fit-zoom and then drag is pan.
Bulk editing these for tracking to consider for a release with greater UX changes, and to clear the queue. These are not in scope for 2.2 but are marked for 2.3 planning tracking.

Removing ni? flag to clear the queue for 2.2 release issues. Bug is marked for later tracking.
