# Overview

In bug 1111042 users reported an issue with being unable to download the developer edition browser in Windows 10.

Investigating the issue, we found that unanticipated changes to the user agent string was causing this. The issue was eventually fixed by modifying the regular expression used for detection against the UA string[0].

In a comment by :kev[1], it was suggested we re-look at our dependency on querying against the UA string to dynamically show content, and replace with an advisory statement instead. We agreed to reconsider our approach.

# Request

This bug is being opened to investigate and implement an alternative to the current logic used to generate download buttons across mozilla.org.

Not a dependency or blocker, but bug 1233443 (users running script blockers) may be worth considering in this conversation.
Espressive - Do we want to tackle this as part of the download button work we are going to start next sprint? How much does this expand scope vs offer benefit to users?
