# Overview

Other bugs (bug 579089) have been derailed to discussions of whether or not to hide the fields altogether. Or maintaining the UA string in separate fields.

** This bug will focus only on the matter of changing these defaults. Please do not mark as a duplicate.

Whether or not there's a more efficient larger picture solution is out of the scope of this bug. I'm just trying to save clicks.

Very few bugs at Mozilla are platform dependent.

Of that subset, an even smaller number are dependent on the platform of the bug reporter.

# If it doesn't matter, why change it?

The fields as they are do have one function: remove any value these fields would normally have.

They are largely ignored now. If it's known that a value != 'All' means the reporter took the time to change them, they would begin to mean something.

sorry, but that's _exactly_ what bug 579089 is about.


bugzilla is used differently by, well, everyone.  there are definitely teams where the reporter's platform is relevant, so we can't just drop that information (triage is one that immediately comes to mind).

we can't simply change the default and provide no way to automatically capture that information at bug submission.
