111427 - Startup hangs after splash screen

After updating to 0.96 Mozilla hangs on start-up, it only displays the splash 
screen and no more. Rebooting did not help (as it did with 0.95).
If Mozialla is hanging it even affects internet explorer, it also stops loading 
pages until I kill Mozilla.

Reporter: Have you installed mozilla in a fresh directory ?
(If not : uninstall mozilla, delete all files in c:\program\mozilla nad
reinstall mozilla)

If that doesn't work try a new profile : run "mozilla -profilemanager"

Yes, I tried that but, it does not help

Hangs the same way in the splash screen.

Could it be possible, that this is a kind of a deadlock on a resource, i.e.
Mozilla is waiting forever for a resource to become free? Especially as Internet
Explorer becomes blocked, too.

Have you used the installer or the win32-zip build ?
(If installer: Can you try the .zip build ? )

I found the same thing happening in this build 2001-11-22-10-trunk
was using the winzip talkback build on win98. had installed it into a clean
directory.  it had worked .. then had to reboot and it didnt work.

meant to add it crashes in mscvrt.dll i think it is straight after the splash
screen, so thinking it could be the same ... the talkback bit never even comes
up. am now using 0.9.6 which works ... and all previous zip builds apart from
the present worked as well.

Just like to say that crash problem seems to be fixed for me in the
2001-11-23-03 talkback zip build .. have just installed it and I am using it

Do you see the profile manager if you use :mozilla -profilemanager ?
If yes: it hangs also with a new, not migrated profile ?

Do you use the Netscape6.x fastload option ? 
(Is there a running Mozilla.exe or Netscape.exe process in the task manager)

By chance I found the reason of the problem: I had a broken installation of
zonealarm. It would prohibit new software to connect to the internet but would
show no confirm dialog. So Mozilla would appear to hang after the splash screen.

Reporter: Mozilla has a few problems with zone alert (if zone alert blocks).
We have already a bug about this in bugzilla.
