>> Feature Request Title:
Search Bar - Keyboard shortcut for quick switching between search engines
>> Description of feature, or problem to be solved
This isn't a request for a new feature, rather a request to kindly re-implement or fix a feature that had previously existed in Firefox. Said feature ceased to exist starting with Firefox 34.0.05, if I'm not mistaken. See the row "NEW - Improved search bar (en-US only)" on the release notes page:
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/34.0.5/releasenotes/
The feature previously allowed the user to use the keyboard shortcuts CTRL+↑ and CTRL+↓ (when the search bar was in-focus) to quickly select a search engine from the list of user-saved search engines. What is more, once a search engine was chosen it used to persist, but now it doesn't. The implications of this are two-fold:
#1
Currently, CTRL+↑ and CTRL+↓ have no effect on the search bar when it is in-focus. Instead, when the user types a search term into the search bar s/he must then hit the '↓' key to skip over all the search-predictions in order to reach the search engine options.
#2
Since a selected search engine doesn't stay selected (i.e., it doesn't persist), if a user wants to search using a saved non-default search engine then s/he must re-select it at every search.
I would also like to note that this is so recent that the feature is still described on Mozilla's Support website; see the table row "Quickly switch between search engines" on the page
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/keyboard-shortcuts-perform-firefox-tasks-quickly#w_search
>> Impact of implementing the feature/solution
Among users who have more than a single search engine, it would save time and preserve the intuitiveness and user-experience that was present in the previous release of Firefox.
>> Impact of NOT implementing the feature/solution
A worsened user-experience.
