This appears to be an intermittent bug, affecting as far as I can tell only Nightly and DevEdition (Aurora). This for example makes it difficult to distinguish between different instances of Nightly and DevEdition.

Not sure if this will help but here's a changeset I can reproduce this on https://hg.mozilla.org/releases/mozilla-aurora/rev/089b5e6cd72e, (on three different profiles).
