1115170 - Menus not appearing when left or right clicked with hardware acceleration enabled

Steps to reproduce:

Right or left click on anything in the menu bar or right click on an email address. Using version 31.3


Actual results:

You get 2 sides of an outline of the menu box, without any of the actual menu items showing


Expected results:

You should see the drop down menu, not just an outline. Repeated clicking on the desired item sometimes bring up the actual menu, but not often

Do you also see this if you have started thunderbird in safe mode?

I do not get the problem when Thunderbird is in Safe Mode. So I then tried to disable all the add-ons I had and run Thunderbird normally, but the error occurs again. I even tried deleting/removing all add-ons and then running it, but I still got the error. Note that I re-booted Thunderbird after removing the add-ons, and when I click on the Extensions button it says "you don't have any add-ons of this type installed," so I know they are gone...but I still have the problem.

For what it's worth, if I install version 24.5 the problem disappears.

Thomas, could you try to disable the hardware acceleration? Go to the "Options", then on "Advanced/General" press "Config Editor...". After accepting the warning, enter in search field: layers.acceleration.disabled. Double click the now appearing line and the option should change to true. Now close Thunderbird and restart it again. Any change?

On Windows you need also to set "gfx.direct2d.disabled" to true.

Please post in text form the contents of the grapics section at help | Troubleshooting.
And, do you have the most recent graphics drivers for your model of GPU?

Also, do you still have problems in version 45 with HWA enabled?
If you do still see problems, is it  better with (in this order)
1. current beta version from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/channel/ ?
2. latest graphics driver for your GPU(s) ?
