Crash Data
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:34.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/34.0 Build ID: 20141127111021 Steps to reproduce: Every time I open firefox it crashes, then it starts again and works fine. What I did: - it was a fresh install after reinstalling system (Ubuntu 14.04) - because of crashes I reinstalled firefox with cleaning all the configuration files, profile files, cache, all the local files connected to flash etc. literally every local file connected in any way to firefox - the bug appears with and without extensions enabled - it happends after fresh install of firefox, when all the local files were cleared up (like described above) - every crash report says the same that it is a problem with libgstflump3dec.so, so, I installed: libgstreamer0.10-dev, libgstreamer-plugins-base0.10-dev, ubuntu-restricted-extras and gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg from ppa:mc3man/trusty-media (the last one as described in here: http://www.webupd8.org/2014/03/get-firefox-and-phonon-gstreamer-to.html), but none of this helped. Crash Report ID's: bp-ee7e008d-87c5-4923-9b09-1960f2141226 bp-440c9542-3b62-4a48-8eda-a3ccc2141226 bp-0cae96af-5f25-4ef8-b94f-e20342141226 Actual results: Firefox crashes after start.

The thing that seems to help is setting: media.gstreamer.enabled to "flase".

Have you tried using an official copy of Firefox from Mozilla, rather than the one from Ubuntu, and does that help?

I used only the Ubuntu version. Now, after turning media.gstreamer.enabled to "flase", it works fine.

I've been living with this bug for a few months, Firefox crashes everytime I start Firefox. I've submitted hundreds of crash reports... What could I do to help with this ?

Edwin, do you know what kind of info would be useful here and/or what's causing this? (In reply to jcleval from comment #4) > I've been living with this bug for a few months, Firefox crashes everytime I > start Firefox. > I've submitted hundreds of crash reports... > What could I do to help with this ? Listing some of the crash report IDs to ensure it's the same issue as the reporter is seeing would be helpful. Besides that, can you use apt/synaptic/aptitude/... to list which gstreamer packages you have installed, and include that list here?

Sure. Here are some of them : bp-2185d811-0be1-4fc1-8b7b-e15022150209 bp-31fd46d6-8925-4eaa-8cdd-1e3a12150204 bp-b8a42ada-2555-4ac1-9ff2-d35db2150127 bp-8d82d631-ad7e-4973-b057-a4faf2150109 And here is the list of the installed gstreamer packages (obtained with "dpkg --get-selections | grep gst") bluez-gstreamer install gir1.2-gst-plugins-base-0.10 install gir1.2-gst-plugins-base-1.0 install gir1.2-gstreamer-0.10 install gir1.2-gstreamer-1.0 install gstreamer-tools install gstreamer0.10-alsa:i386 install gstreamer0.10-fluendo-mp3:i386 install gstreamer0.10-gconf:i386 install gstreamer0.10-gnonlin install gstreamer0.10-nice:i386 install gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad:i386 install gstreamer0.10-plugins-base:i386 install gstreamer0.10-plugins-base-apps install gstreamer0.10-plugins-good:i386 install gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly:i386 install gstreamer0.10-pulseaudio:i386 install gstreamer0.10-tools install gstreamer0.10-x:i386 install gstreamer1.0-alsa:i386 install gstreamer1.0-clutter install gstreamer1.0-fluendo-mp3:i386 install gstreamer1.0-libav:i386 install gstreamer1.0-nice:i386 install gstreamer1.0-plugins-bad:i386 install gstreamer1.0-plugins-bad-faad:i386 install gstreamer1.0-plugins-bad-videoparsers:i386 install gstreamer1.0-plugins-base:i386 install gstreamer1.0-plugins-base-apps install gstreamer1.0-plugins-good:i386 install gstreamer1.0-plugins-ugly:i386 install gstreamer1.0-pulseaudio:i386 install gstreamer1.0-tools install gstreamer1.0-x:i386 install libclutter-gst-1.0-0:i386 install libclutter-gst-2.0-0:i386 install libgstreamer-plugins-bad0.10-0:i386 install libgstreamer-plugins-bad1.0-0:i386 install libgstreamer-plugins-base0.10-0:i386 install libgstreamer-plugins-base1.0-0:i386 install libgstreamer-plugins-good1.0-0:i386 install libgstreamer0.10-0:i386 install libgstreamer1.0-0:i386 install libreoffice-avmedia-backend-gstreamer install phonon-backend-gstreamer:i386 install phonon-backend-gstreamer-common:i386 install python-gst0.10 install
I've just been looking at my old crash reports, and I found out that the first of the these crashes occured mid June with the release of Firefox 30.
Hum.. from Firefox 30's release note (https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/30.0/releasenotes/) Support for GStreamer 1.0 (see 806917 for build configuration)
Sorting this out soon. Had a patch waiting for review for... a while... now in bug 981869 to blacklist flump3dec; will rebase and land some time in the next week or so.
