Which Nightly build did you download?
Can you try using http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mobile/nightly/latest-mozilla-central-android-api-11/fennec-37.0a1.multi.android-arm.apk
If using the above build you are still running into problems, can you attach a log-cat to this bug?

build version was in number one in "steps to reproduce" (it was Nightly 37.0a1), but new version works. Continuing to do exploratory testing.

Wild guess is that you accidentally downloaded the Intel Android x86 version on http://nightly.mozilla.org which won't work on your phone (ARM)
