Details
Ignoring the protocol for the cases of http and https is intended behavior.
Most people search for a page by hostnames instead of protocol and hostname.

I consider it rude if people waste my time by filing duplicate reports.

Why is it intended behavior to allow for security holes? The user can be redirected from a secure site to a non secure site not because they wanted to but because of firefox. Even chrome fixed that as a security bug.

That's not what your initial comment was about.
You talked about entering http and ending up on https instead.
Furthermore, this ticket is marked as a duplicate so bug 1091958 is where to comment instead.
