We're seeing a significant lag between the time we update a Req in Jobvite to when the changes are made on the Careers Page. I'm not sure whether it's an issue on our side or Jobvite's, but the lag time used to be about 3 minutes (last year), and now it seems to be taking more like half an hour.

Please let me know what our expectations should be, and whether there is something we can do to help speed up this lag time.

Thanks!

Mkelly -> can you let us know how often the cron job runs (I checked code and mana and could not find it), and double check the cache on these pages.

Andrea -> is there a specific reason why 30 minutes is too long? Given how often jobs are updated and posted these feels like an appropriate amount of delay.

Jobvite is especially challenged with formatting. If we are trying to get the formatting correct on the careers page, waiting 30 minutes each time we adjust will basically mean it might take several hours to make the formatting corrections that most roles require.

For example, this morning I spent an hour fighting to get jobvite to do something, it appears to have done so based on the preview in Jobvite, and then the update took so long that I haven't had time to go back and see if it "took".

Updates need to happen in minutes, and 30 is about 10 times too long.

The pages aren't cached (not enough traffic to bother plus Zeus doesn't like the Vary headers for some reason). So it's just the sync frequency we're dealing with.

I don't see any particular reason not to sync the jobs once every 3 minutes (it sounds un-ideal in that the jobs don't change that often when they're not edited, but it should actually hurt anything to update that often), so I've filed bug 1119536 to update the frequency of the job.

Andrea: The update frequency has been changed to roughly every three minutes. Can you test by editing a job description and checking to see how long it takes to update?

Hi guys, it looks as if something has broken, as there seems to have been no sync for a couple of days now (and recruiters and hiring managers are starting to panic). Can you please check it out and see if it's a problem on our side? Thank you!

I've manually synced it and confirmed with andiezing that it's up to date now, will file a followup bug with IT to see if the command has been running.

Andrea: Can you make a change to a job listing, wait 10 minutes, and then check to see if the change is reflected on careers.mozilla.org? I want to confirm that changes aren't being pulled by the automatic job before we test something.

Hi Michael, I've just made a change and waited 10 mins to see if it would update, and there has been no update. Hopefully that helps! Thanks again for your help! :)

Hi guys - we have a couple positions that we need added/updated on the Careers page asap. Would it be possible to manually run the sync today pretty please? :)

Done. If we run into this again before we figure out why the 3-minute frequency is broken I'm going to decrease the sync frequency back to like 30 minutes and see if that helps, and we can try and investigate how low we can go before trouble appears.
Sounds good, Michael! Thanks again. :)
Confirmed via email that the changes are now being updated on careers.mozilla.org successfully. Please reopen if issues pop up again.
