Mailer does not display some messages

Details
I am not sure if it's a networking problem, an IMAP specific one, or something
else. I have the problem with an IMAP account but did not try with POP.
Sometimes (maybe once on 10 or 20 messages), when I select a new mail from the
inbox list, the message is shown as empty. When this happens :
- The headers are not updated from the previously displayed mail.
- The message summary in the Inbox list stays in bold
If I select the next or previous message, they are OK. If I go back to the
"empty" one, it's still empty and the headers are still not updated but the
message summary is no more bold.
I can read the message if :
- I quit and restart Mozilla/Netscape
- I send the message to trash with the Delete function, then go to the Trash
and select it.
NB: I posted this problem in the newsgroup netscape.netscape6.windows on 30/10.
See : <3BDE6F88.40401@arbornet.org>. I checked with the new 0.9.6 release and
it's still present, and apparently not in the bugzilla database. It was already
there in release 0.9.4 at least.

So even if I feel like nobody cares, here is an additional information. I was
using the IMAP server to get my mail. I changed to POP3 to see if something
changes. The answer is yes, the problem is only with IMAP, not POP3.
NB: this test has been done with netscape 6.2.

- For whom might care
1) I went back to IMAP while using Mozilla 0.9.8, bug is still present (is it
surprising?)
2) The problem might be related to swapping conditions : I feel that it does not
occur when the mailer has been active recently or if the memory load is low,
while when Mozilla is swapped it occurs often. Could it be (just a suggestion)
some time-out being triggered?

This bug happened to me too, also in my IMAP account (did not encounter it on my
POP3 accounts). It's exactly the same behaviour: Selecting the mail does not
change the header (the data of the previously selected mail is shown), and the
body remains empty.
Not sure if this is a threading issue. In the most recent case, I encountered
this with a message which is the last one in it's thread (let's number it 1). I
replied to this message (with bcc'ing myself). After this, I could read message
1, but now the problem happened to the "new last" mail in this thread which I
just sent (let's say number 2).
Seeing this I tested it again: I replied to myself, bcc'ing myself, and voilà, I
could read number 2, but not the reply.
One more thing I noticed that when moving the mnail to trash and back to my
inbox, a) it could be displayed (as Michael reported) b) the message was
displayed as sibling of the mail I replied to, not as it's child.
Hope this helps somebody to get an idea what's going on. This is somewhat annoying.

forgot to add that I'm working with Mozilla 0.9.8, on Windows NT 4 with service
pack 6. But me thinks this happened to me already in 0.9.7.

Does this still happen to any of you in a current version?

pi, now that you mention it .... long time since I encountered this behaviour
the last time. Thinking back, I believe that at least all 1.0RC? versions did
not show it.

It's been a long time since I've had any problems with IMAP and Mozilla. Marking
this WorksForMe based on comments. Please REOPEN if you can reproduce this with
a new build.

Alas........ No it still does not work. I made sure of that this morning. So
please reopen the bug... I use now build 2002053012 (release version 1.0).

1.0 is months old, about 2600 bugs got fixed since then. Please use a new
nightly from
ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/nightly/latest-1.1
after making a backup-copy of your profile. Thank's for testing mozilla.

I installed 1.1b build 2002080819, and I had the problem again today (after
several days of normal operation using IMAP). I would say that this happens less
often than with 0.9x versions, however this might be related to clearly better
overall performance. NB: I don't have time to install every nightly versions
just for the sake of seing if some miracle solved the bug ;)... Also I'll be on
holidays on another continent till end of September (yes, almost 6 weeks!!!) so
I won't check it for a while...

Is there a chance, you can test this on a different machine? Can you try a new
profile?
