Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:34.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/34.0 SeaMonkey/2.31
Build ID: 20141202220728
Steps to reproduce:
In SeaMonkey, either in the Mail or in the Browser, Right Click on an Image and Select Copy Image.
Actual results:
When you try to Paste it into another program like Word, it only Pastes a Link for the Image and Not the actual Image itself.
Expected results:
It should have Copied the Actual Image. I did Find out that if you in word, choose "Paste Special", then it will have bitmap that can be selected - then it will paste in the Image. Firefox and Thunderbird Paste in the Image correctly without having to do this.
Oh, I suspect it is your target application that is interpreting the "image" as a Link rather then an Image.
IOW a "Copy Image" copies in all "formats"; Unicode, Text, Bitmap, ... & it is up to the application you're pasting into to decide how to handle it.
If you were to paste the same "Copy Image" into IrfanView or (Windows) Paint, I think you'll find that an "image" gets pasted instead of a link.
(You can use Windows clipbrd.exe program to see the formats that a Copy Image is copied to.)
I've had this happen too, when pasting into both Corel PhotoPaint and MSPaint. Most of the time all I get is the link, pasted as if it's a text object. Presently using SM v2.39. This *never* happened in v2.25 or older, regardless of what app the image was being pasted into.
Oddly, paste works normally IF PhotoPaint has previously complained about memory (I use an old version that tends to throw up if the system has more than 1GB physical RAM).

NOT reproducible REPRODUCIBLE with English SeaMonkey (unofficial by frg) 2.47a1 (NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:50.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/50.0 Build 20160628114904 (Default Classic Theme) on German WIN7 64bit:
0. Launch IrfanView, Gimp, LibreOffice (Text document)
1. Launch SeaMonkey browser, show <https://unofficialseamonkeynews.wordpress.com/2016/06/01/seamonkey-bugfix-coffee-mug-competition/>
2. 'Rightclick bug-on-SeaMonkey picture → Copy Picture'
3. Paste into all applications with 'rightclick → paste'
» Into all other applications a picture will be inserted as expected :-)
I can't remember to have seen the reported problem in the past.
This result underpins therube's suspect that the problem is in the target application and not in SeaMonkey, but we can not be sure.
WRM for now.
@Reporter: Please feel free to reopen this Bug if you still can reproduce the problem with a current SeaMonkey version and a current OS and if you can contribute a step by step instruction how to reproduce the problem due to <https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/QA/Bug_writing_guidelines> (containing every key press and every mouse click) how to reproduce the problem reliably. Your new comments should contain some indication why the problem mighte be a SeaMonkey problem and not a target application problem.
