Steps to reproduce:
when right clicking a folder for an imap share, and then clicking delete, the folder is never deleted, and no error message is shown
Expected results:
an error message should be shown

You mean an imap share aka namespace like described at http://www.emaildiscussions.com/showthread.php?t=69315 where more than one person has access?
How exactly do you have it defined in Tools | Account Settings?

Ah, on linux account settings is in Preferences.

How is it invalid? Is thunderbird just silently failing without letting the user know expected behaviour now?

Yes the account is IMAP. The folder was created when I right clicked on the account and clicked new folder when I was trying to figure out why none of the other folders like inbox or sent were no longer showing up, but after that, I can try to delete it, but thunderbird does nothing.
