TB version 31.3.0 Actual results: The email appears to be from someone who the original sender didn't communicate with. Expected results: The correct email address, you know, the email address that received it, should have shown up in the 'From' field when replying.
This works fine for me. Is the email the message was sent to one of your identities? If it's not, Thunderbird won't set that as the "From", since you haven't said it's one of your addresses.

(In reply to Jim Porter (:squib) from comment #1) > This works fine for me. Is the email the message was sent to one of your > identities? If it's not, Thunderbird won't set that as the "From", since you > haven't said it's one of your addresses. As I originally posted in the bug report, the 'From' address reverts to the topmost address in your stack of addresses RATHER than the address that the email was sent to. IOW-- Billybob sends me (roversouth) an email. When I right click and choose 'Reply to Sender' the 'From' address listed is NOT roversouth but the address that is at the top of the stack when you click the drop down arrow for the 'From' field. In previous versions of Thunderbird, when I chose 'Reply to Sender' it would use the email address that the email was sent to. If the email address is 'registered' with AT&T, it goes through. If the return email is NOT registered with AT&T I get a Failure notice. Either way this create confusion since wither the email never goes thru or the reply comes form someone unknown to them. Thanks Tom
The reason for that would likely be that it is actually sent to some alias of roversouth? Alternatively, if you're moving the message with filters to another account, it's possible thunderbird don't know "who" you are, so it uses the one on top (= the default). Are you using POP, (with global inbox or not?) or IMAP?
Using POP (Same problem with IMAP so went back to POP) Thunderbird version 31.5.0 This problem only seems to occur with Tbird on Windows. There are no aliases. I do have many filters but all filters move mail to folders under Local Folders, not to other accounts Tried the same thing with same version of Tbird on LinuxMint 17 and things work as they should. This could be a Windows issue rather than a Tbird issue. Tbird updated as I was typing this so we'll see what happens. Thanks Tom
(In reply to T. Hunt from comment #5) > I do have many filters but all filters move mail to folders under Local > Folders, not to other accounts If it occurs only when you reply to messages move out of the account it was sent to (e.g. moved to Local Folders), that's probably the issue.
Makes no difference whether I reply to an email from a Local Folder or an Inbox. Like I said, I'm beginning to think this is a Windows issue. Tom
