steps to reproduce:
1. Launch Dev app
2. Check to ensure that there is an update for Dev pending
3. Sign in using your @mozilla.com address
4. Load homepage

expected behavior:
Update notification is displayed prompting user to upload their marketplace


actual behavior:
Update notification doesn't show up.

And nothing else. Going to debug this with an 1.3 phone, it's super-weird, there doesn't seem to be any errors.

Also reproducing on a geeksphone peak running 1.3 with the same thing in the logs - it does work on 2.2 on the same device though.

Before merging https://github.com/mozilla/fireplace/pull/900, we should test this same thing on 1.1.

- I tested on 1.1 (Keon) today, and it showed up \o/
- I retested on 1.3 (Peak) and it's still not showing up :(

Krupa, it's 2:1 that we should move ahead with this rather than poke at 1.3 further. Your vote will decide.

It is 3:1 that we should move ahead and launch this. On 1.3, it fails gracefully and the notification does not show up which is on par with the current behavior. The user is not expecting an update notification to show up and won't be surprised when it doesn't.

It would be great if we can fix it for 1.3 but let us not block an improvement of UX for all other users just because it doesn't work on 1.3.

AFAIK it's still broken in 1.3, but works fine on other versions - I've applied updates through the banner in various versions on different devices without any troubles. Since it's not a priority and it's really a mysterious bug, I haven't spent more time on it.
